Expanding Community Wealth: Relocalizing Strong Economies for Prince Edward Island

November 23, 2018 @ 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM

A Working Session on local institutional procurement.

A study released by the Centre for Local Prosperity in January 2018 showed that 44% of the dollars generated in the Island economy leak away to somewhere else.

Join us for this working session on re-localizing community wealth through ‘Import Replacement’, which is the process of plugging economic leaks in the economy.  Specifically, we will explore the implementation of an economic development strategy that redirects spending from public-sector anchor institutions for greater local procurement.  The session will build upon the ‘Preston Model‘ which has proven to rebuild and grow economies in several towns in England.

Registration and refreshments: 8:30am

Working Session:  9:00am – 12:00 noon

Free and open to the public.
